Why do women remain vulnerable to exploitation

Every girl must have had this question in her mind at least once, "Why us"?? Sooner or later , they must have questioned on their own existence. Women , unfortunately , continue to face various forms of discrimination, violence  and marginalization globally. Crime against  women is a pervasive issue that includes a range of crimes , including rape, domestic violence , kidnapping &dowry deaths etc. Let's highlight some stats and reports before understanding the main causes for violence against women , The NFHS 5, found that nearly  One  third of women aged 15-49 in India have experienced some form of violence. As per annual report of NCRB (2022), * One woman is raped every 20 minutes. *From 2018 to 2022 , reported crime against women rose by 12.9%  The women&men in India ,2023 report, shows a rise from 359849 case in 2017 to over 445000 in 2022, averaging 1220 case daily and averaging 51 FIR per hour. Homemaker vs Working woman

Somewhere I read that , "Women are not born , they are made" . What will they wear, what toys  will they play with, where will they go , what should they do when they grow up all things are predecided  for them . That's why this line is not suprising.  There is a story I vividly remember from school. During a class I casually asked all the students what they want to pursue after college. Almost everyone answered the question . There were several voices that said doctor , teacher and other professions that are considered valuable and respectable in the eyes of society. But then there was  one girl said  ma'am we don't know what we  will become, but if we are not able to do anything , we definitely become a housewife. I have also heard people say that if you decide to be a housewife, you're not utilising any of the skills you learned in your degree.  You know what I found the most surprising in this , if a woman is unsuccessful then she is a homemaker. Is being

Loneliness : A new pandemic

American Psychological Association-  "Modern life is synonymous with human absorption- seduction-with technology -mediated companions". The Global State of Social Connections report stated that about a quater of the world population feels lonely. And the deleterious effect of loniless is equivalent to smoking 15cigaretts  a day. India's troubles in this context run deep .About 27% of its youth, 5 -15% of children and almost 75% of senior citizens are afflicted by solitude. Atleast 10%of adolescents and 25%  of older people are lonely or very lonely.  According to Gallup and Walton Family Foundation, 10%GenZ describe their mental health as"poor" while rest of them say just "Ok" , they feel severe segregation . GenZ - generally considered to include those born between  1997 and 2012. These statics are an underestimation of the real scale of loneliness , which the WHO declared a pressing ,albeit underappreciated , global health threat.  The indian experie

Women's Education :From the perspective of deprived girls

Image
Once Vivekanad  said ," If you educate a man , you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a family".  Quotes are meant to be for a good starting because to educate a woman from roots  in real world is not a snap.  Did you ever think those girls perspective about women education who live in villages or in deprived areas?   Let's elaborate this with my own experience... Recently, I interacted with some class 10th girls through Naandi Foundation , an NGO.  I noticed many points ..first of all, their education level ..  they are in class 10th  but they are unable to write the name  of their own parents , they even did'nt know the spelling of High School .  I asked them what do they expect  from this so called studies ? And some of them answered , personally they are not willing to go school,   just beacuse their  parents forced them  so they have to go . They have neither  any plans for further studies  nor for gaining more  knowledge  , they are h

How long and Why will Women remain soft targets?

"बहुत दुःख होता है कि हम लड़कियाँ हैं"  This line belongs to  true incident based  movie  named, Ajmer92. What can be more frightening than this that we start fearing with our existence?  We are changing ,our country  is changing, then why people's thinking is not changing for women . Whether it the time  of Ajmer Scandle in 1992, Nirbhaya incident in 2012 or Manipur horrified incident in 2023 ,  women were  considered as commodity even then and even today. Never before in the last 75 years have Indian women been so celebrated and at the same time, publically  so degraded.  Audre Lorde , an american writer asks a crucial question for our time : What do women want after they have told all their stories?  Do we want a safe space for an individualistic telling of the stories of our lives or should we now look beyond ourselves towards a collective movement that will redefine and reshape democratic India, through our lived experiences ? Should we begin to work systematically

Mental Illness that's making human the living corpse

In today' fast-paced  world,  we often hear  a very prevailing phrase "just accept the situation and go ahead"  but very few people know what to accept and where to move?  Examples are meant to be understood , so let's start with a exemplification ...many of us have seen the series ASUR  and ofcourse everyone must have developed their own diffrent views obout it . But what i observed is Shubh's mind  how he became what he heard about himself. So my purpose in saying this that we often priorities societal point of view  notwithstanding of our conscience about us. We all know there is big diffrence b/w saying and believing  and it is this diffrence that leads us to mental illness .  We all experience mental disorders at some point for some reasons, for someone it can be issues of health, studies, career, relationships and for someone it can be empty nest syndrome.  Dr Jeffrey Kellogg says -" I think mental health is pervasive . It affects us in everything we do, a
